100 Days of Christmas - 3D Tree

These 3D trees are simple to make, effective to look at, and ideal for both children and adults to make. Adults will need to cut the triangles for young children.

You will need:

thick card (I used mat board)

variety of papers to decorate

ribbons / gems / glitter / other decorative items

PVA glue

craft knife

ruler

pencil

 Start by cutting your card into two triangles the same size, using a craft knife. Use a ruler to make precise measurements - the peak of the triangle should be directly in the centre of the triangle.

 Cover your triangles in decorative paper. I used music sheets that I then applied glitter to on one side, and a variety of papers on the other side.

Using the craft knife, cut a slit down the centre of each triangle - one from the top going down to the middle; and the other slit going from the bottom of the triangle to halfway up. Use a ruler to precisely measure where the middle of your triangle is, so you know where to cut to.
Make sure the cut allows for the thickness of the card you are using. I used matboard, so my cuts needed to be a couple of millimetres wide.
Once I had made the cuts, I then decorated the tree using gems and stars.

When dry, slot the two triangles together to create a 3D tree.

If doing this with young children, lay out a range of dishes, each containing different items, so children can easily see what is available and choose what they fancy.
